“Just writing to let you know that Matthew and Daniel received their PADI Cards last week.

Many thanks for all your patience and encouragement with the boys as I'm sure it all helped towards them passing. They were both delighted to see the cards arrive in the post  to show their pals.

Hopefully we'll get back to L'Escala at some time in the next year or so and I'm sure we'll be in contact with you then.

    Regards, Mary”

SCUBA DIVER TRAINING

PADI Open Water Course

The PADI Open Water course to achieve certification as an open water diver, gives you a qualification which is recognised around the world, allowing you to dive to a depth of 18 meters. As a certified PADI Open Water Diver you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of a professional.

Prerequisites

Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certificate. Participants will need to be able to swim 200 meters (no time limits) and tread water for 10 minutes. It is the prerequisite course for any further training and your certificate will be recognised at dive centers around the globe.

What will I learn?

This exciting five day course is a qualification for life during which you’ll learn the fundamentals of scuba diving techniques and how to handle dive equipment. You will earn the PADI Open Water Diver certificate by attending knowledge development and review sessions, completing confined water sessions, and making four open water dives.

The PADI Open Water qualification takes up to 5 days and involves self-study from the Open Water book and DVD which will be sent to you when you book your course. The end of chapter reviews should be completed at home prior to coming so as to minimize the time spent on theory lessons needed in Spain. (Who wants to be swotting on their holiday?). Your understanding of the theory will be tested by going through and correcting the end of chapter reviews that you have completed, going over anything that you don’t understand until it’s clear. Then you take some  quizzes as a practice for the multiple choice exam. This should only take half a day when you’ve done your self study thoroughly. Then the fun in the water can begin. For a full course outline download the pdf on our Resources page.

The cost is €395 including all course materials and tuition, dive equipment, and your PADI registration. The Open Water course must be reserved at the time of booking a place as an Eco Dive Volunteer as volunteers need this or an equivalent qualification before they can begin training in underwater research methods. Volunteers must allow additional time at the start of their stay in order to take the Open Water course if they are not already qualified to an equivalent level.

PADI Advanced Open Water Course

If you would like to continue with your training, this is the perfect opportunity to learn about some of the special and exciting types of dives available. The PADI Advanced Open Water Course builds experience and understanding of diving, and is designed to be taken directly after completion of the Open Water course. The term "Advanced" is often misinterpreted, as this course is simply advanced training for Open Water divers.

What will I learn?

You may want to dive to a wreck that lies below 18 meters, want to improve your buoyancy control in order to take pictures under water, or long to explore underwater caves or visit your favourite dive site at night. Your Advanced Course with Kenna Eco Diving will give you the experience of some of the most popular diving activities, as well as developing skills that will allow your dives to be safer and more enjoyable.

This course improves your under water skills, providing you with a sample of specialty diving activities, however the extent and term of each differs to accommodate your interests.

Prerequisites

You must hold either the PADI Open Water certification or a similar certification from another federation and be at least 15 years of age.

What's involved?

Three "core" dives - a navigation dive, a deep dive and a night/cave dive - and two "elective" dives which you will select with the help of your PADI instructor. These elective dives are based on specialties as diverse as Wreck Diving, Underwater Photography, and Drift Diving. You can complete this course in as few as 2 days. This is ideal for Open Water divers who want to continue their training during their holiday break. There is no course work to study for the PADI Advanced Open Water certificate as it is a purely practical course. However, you will be given an orientation and advice prior to the dives and guided underwater throughout your Advanced Dives. The cost is €290.
