Booking Information for Eco Dive Volunteers
Eco Dive volunteers benefit from free research diving in exchange for their assistance with our marine conservation activities. Volunteers contribute their time and make a payment towards certain subsidised costs.
Eco Diving highlights include:
- Learn about Mediterranean marine ecology
- Dive the famous Medes Islands Marine Reserve
- Learn marine research techniques
- Participate in active data collection
- Assist marine researchers in ongoing conservation projects
- Eco Dive during weekdays in spectacular ecosystems
- Build up diving experience and refine buoyancy skills
- Practice underwater photography
Our commitment to proper Induction Training for volunteer Eco Divers means that we ask you to come for a minimum of two weeks in order to make a meaningful contribution towards our research.
Eco Dive volunteers Induction Training:
- Visit the Museum of the Mediterranean exhibition of local marine ecology
- Medes Islands Marine Reserve dive
- Visit the Silmar Project base in Begur
- PowerPoint presentation
- Training videos
- Species recognition handouts
- Underwater “show & tell” session
- Practice species counts
The volunteer financial contribution in the tables below is towards the following services:
- Girona airport/nearest railway station transfers
- Transfers during Induction Training, Medes dive, and visits
- Daily transfers to dive at research stations
- Shared bunkhouse accommodation at the Eco Center
- Weekday breakfasts at the Eco Center

Many of our volunteers travel alone and there is no minimum number of people required to stay in the shared volunteer bunkhouse at the Eco Center, which sleeps 6.
UPGRADES
Families, couples and groups may prefer to upgrade to a private self catering apartment 5 minutes from the Eco Center. The apartments have a lounge/diner, balcony, bathroom, kitchen, two double bedrooms (some also have a sofa bed), sleeping 4/5 persons (bed linen included).
As with Eco Dive volunteers staying at the Eco Center all research diving is free along with full Induction Training. The volunteer contribution towards the subsidised apartment also includes items 1 to 3 listed above.
Eco Dive volunteer contribution towards the subsidised apartment:
May/June/Sept/Oct - € 398, July/August - €448, per person per week (based on a minimum of 3 persons sharing). An under-occupancy charge will be applied for numbers less than 3 persons.
Please note: Eco Dive Volunteers require PADI Open Water or equivalent qualification to participate in underwater surveys. Please allow an additional 5 days at the start of your stay for dive training to PADI Open Water (if required).
